We family got scammed by a scammer who was tech savvy
Grandmother Getting Scammed on Facebook (UK)
Our grandfather passed away recently, leaving our grandmother on her own. Her three daughters and her grandchildren (like me) all keep in touch with her and she's started doing something concerning.
She and her late husband loved the singer, Tom Jones. Gran has now joined multiple Facebook groups that are essentially Tom Jones fan groups. She keeps adding and getting added by scam profiles that pretend to be Tom Jones himself. These accounts have been messaging her asking her to transfer money and buy Apple gift cards and stuff.
My mother (her daughter) has access to gran's account on Facebook on a seperate device. Mum regularly monitors gran's activity but it's relentless. Gran is somewhat tech-savvy and is able to unblock accounts easily. She is adamant about messaging these accounts and gets very angry when any of her family try to tell her it's a scam.
Granny ended up loosing 70k to this scammer from facebook.. All the crypto we left for her has investments Gone!
