Advocates went on a one-day strike today.Within the framework of the previously announced strike, a press conference-discussion was held today at the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia, the topic of which was the inadequate response (lack of response) of the competent state bodies in relation to the recent cases of violence against advcates in the police departments.

The day of the strike and the subsequent steps were not chosen by chance. June 26 is a symbolic day, the International Day of Support for Victims of Torture, and the advocates considered it appropriate to remind on that day about the role and significance of the most important institution of our society: Advocacy.

"Even police officers who used violence against advocates need an advocate." highliging this point, the advocates once again emphasized the importance of their 104-year-old institute and the provision of independent functioning of advocates.

In spite of the silence of the international structures, state authorities and the law enforcement system, the advocates also carried out an awareness campaign throughout the day at the entrances of the courts, the police and the investigative committee departments, reminding them that they are conducting a strike to adequately respond to the violence against advocates, to eliminate the existing obstacles to the implementation of the advocates’ professional activity, ensure the effective protection of the violated rights of advocates.

The advocates, united around the same goal, decided to call a meeting of the club in the near future and decide on what to do next, then they marched to the Central Police Department. We will post additional photos and information about the march.
