Today, the march of advocates to the office of the EU delegation in Armenia started from the administrative building of the Chamber of Advocates of RA.

The aim of the march was to draw the attention of the public and international institutions to the recent cases of violence against advocates by police officers, as well as to achieve the appropriate response of relevant institutions and prevent similar cases through public awareness.

It shall be reminded that the recent incident happened on June 7, 2023, when a group of police officers of the Central Police Department of Yerevan beat advocate Karen Alaverdyan, handcuffed and used tear gas on him, arrested and searched him.

The choice of the EU delegation was significant in terms of informing the European partners that the EU funds allocated for the financing of judicial reforms in RA are directed to violence against advocates.

The advocates participating in the march also submitted a written application to the EU delegation on the mentioned issue.

Similar public awareness activities, as discussed and recorded in the advocates’ meeting on June13, 2023, will continue until the demands are fulfilled by the relevant authorities.
